Setting Up a New People Database

Welcome to People! This article will help you set up your People account by showing you how to find and track people, and it will provide you with links to learn more. In addition to this guide, check out our Product Tour, which shows you how People works for your church.

Once you're subscribed and have imported your data, you're ready to get started learning the application. Here are some quick overview videos for you to see how to set up and use the two main features, lists and workflows:

Find People with Lists

Lists allow you to filter your people based on their information and activity across all Planning Center applications. You can share lists with others or print them using reports.

Create, edit, or star a list from the Lists tab.

Once you click on a list, you can refresh results, sync with a Mailchimp List, share with others, view the rules, or use the Actions button to update the listed people, email them, and export or print the list of people.

If the list is not shared, some actions will not be available.

Use Workflows to Track Processes

Workflows help you keep track of your processes to be better connected to your church and those who attend and visit.

From the Workflows tab, create a new workflow or edit an existing workflow.


In a workflow, you can see each step and any cards assigned. Add someone, a step, share, or edit the workflow or move someone along in the process.

When a card is Ready, the assigned person will receive an email notification.

Once you've checked out those two features, you are ready for your first day to use People! Be sure to download our app for iOS or Android!

If you wanna dive in a little deeper, we have created a training video that will continually be updated. It's 30 minutes long and has chapters for you to jump around easily. It also links to all of our articles throughout the video.


Get Help & Support

If you need any help as you're getting set up, we are here to help you! The best way is by clicking the question mark in the upper right when you're logged in. When you click that, you'll see this helpful dialog box.

  1. Suggested articles will give suggestions based on the page you're on when you click the question mark.
  2. Type in what you're looking for. This will search our online manual and return articles on that topic.
  3. Click browse our documentation to be taken directly to our online manual. You'll be able to see all of our help articles and open them from there.
  4. Open a ticket to send an email to our Support Team. For the most efficient support, be sure to include specifics about what you're working with. The more specifics you send our way, the better we can help!
