Update Contact and Personal Information

Change a person's contact and personal information, including their login credentials, from their profile. 

Note

When editing the email address or phone number for someone who can access profiles in your database, you must verify that you have confirmed those changes with the impacted person before saving the updated information. The affected person then receives an email with details about the change.

• Use the + to add a new type of contact or the - to remove the contact information.

• Use the dropdowns to choose the stage of life and important dates.

• If the person is a Child, schools that match the selected School Type are listed in the dropdown, and only grades that fall in the range set for the school will show up. If you don't see a school, a manager can add and edit school information from the Manage Schools button.

• Medical notes show up on Registrations and Check-Ins labels. 

  Warning

  If you choose to add medical data, make sure you comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). For more information, see Planning Center's Privacy Policy.

Tip

Press shift + ? on a profile page to access keyboard shortcuts that open sections on the Personal tab for editing.

Names

• Enter the first and last name as well as any additional names. Use the person's legal first name as the Given Name to associate checks from a person. Use the Nickname if a person regularly goes by another name besides this one.

• Managers can customize the prefix, suffix, and marital status options.

Phone Numbers and Addresses

• If you're editing a phone number or address with the type set to Home, you can update it for all members in the same household by checking the box that appears when you edit.

  

• Mobile numbers are listed first. They are shown on a mobile device and will take you to your SMS app.

• Phone numbers will be auto-formatted based on your church's country settings or the person's assigned campus (if in a different country).

  Notice

  To avoid cluttering up the People page with unnecessary country codes, the phone number formatting will take into account your church’s country setting and the country setting of the campus that a profile has been assigned to.

Birthdate/Life Stage

• Age is shown in months until two years old and is used in Check-Ins location filters.

• A Child who is 13 years old and up can log in to Church Center but cannot make changes to their profile. 

• If you want to add a birthday with no year, type it in manually rather than using the selector and use 1885 as the birth year, which will show no age. 

  Important

  Groups and Services chat is restricted to ages 13 and up. People without a year on their birthday will not be able to participate in chats.
