New Permissions for Notes

Before today, someone's permissions in notes were tied to their overall permissions in People (Manager, Editor, or Viewer). If you wanted someone to be able to create a new note, your only option was to make them an Editor, which lets them edit any profile and any info therein, which might be more power than they need.

Now, these permissions are handled more granularly. On each specific note category, you can control what someone can do within that particular note category.

There are two options for what each person or group can do.

  • View / Create - A View / Create share allows that person to view all notes in that category, as well as create new notes. (Now, a Viewer could be given access to add notes!)
  • View only - With this permission, you can see all of the notes in that category without being able to add new notes yourself. (Allowing a sensitive category to be read-only when necessary.)

*Only Managers with a View / Create share can adjust that category's visibility and notification settings.

This work brings permissions in note categories in line with the changes to permissions in Lists,  Forms, and Workflows. If you have suggestions about how we could make permissions work better for you, reach out to our support team and let us know.
